Representative Sonya Harper has represented the 6th District in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2015. With a background in television journalism for NBC, FOX, and CBS, she transitioned to community activism to address equity gaps in her Chicago community. She founded "Grow Greater Englewood," a non-profit promoting urban agriculture and healthy living. In the legislature, she made history as the first Black chair of the Agriculture & Conservation Committee and has been a lead sponsor on initiatives for urban farming, cannabis social equity, and public safety.
